Lukao Fuha 2025

We welcome the community to honor our ancestors, find spiritual grounding, and celebrate the CHamoru Lunar New Year. Join us February 1st at 8:30 a.m. at Lasso’ Fuha, Humåtak for Lukao Fuha – a sacred procession and ceremony reflecting on the Pontan and Fo’na Creation Story, and how we connect to ourselves, to each other, and to our sacred lands and waters.

Please bring: offerings for the altar, refillable water bottle, hiking shoes, comfortable clothes (you will get wet!) and an open heart.

Meggai ma’åse to all the volunteers and organizations supporting this event: Independent Guåhan, Gi Matan Guma’, Humåtak Community Foundation, Humåtak Mayor’s office, Micronesian Climate Change Alliance, Hita Litekyan.

  1. Sovereignty is not a material object that belongs to men who suppose they have an inherent right to govern over others. Individual sovereignty is a birthright provided by the creator of men. Since no man can claim the invention of men, they have no right to govern other men unless that right is willfully handed to them. When does that occur for Chamoru people? I contend that is when procreators of live births agree to register the name of a live birth with a unique number and certification of subscription to a legal entity exercising its self-imposed sovereignty in the location of the live birth. I find the prospect of restoring geographic sovereignty and individual human sovereignty to be a fascinating one. Be assured I will be observing and occasionally attending your activities. The Great Generation of Baby Boomers and the forefront portion of millennials appear to lean toward statehood. Those of you taking the lead are commendable. Sovereign men must agree to live simple, efficient, self-sufficient, socio-economic, environmentally sustainable lifestyles. I look forward to the growth and acceptance of Independence as the best choice for Guam.
